When a search engine transverses your Web site it "sees" only your
"static" pages. Pages that are generated in real-time from your database are not
indexed. This is because search engines can't "see" inside your database, be it
MS Access or a SQL server.
This means that if
someone searches on, say, Google.com for something you sell, they are not going to find
it. Until now that is! CyberStrong eShop solves this problem by creating
"static" product pages that lead searchers right to your online store!
How it Works
Once you have entered your product data into CyberStrong eShop's
database, click on "Create search engine pages for your products" on eShop's
setup screen. CyberStrong eShop creates a sub folder called "catalog" then scans
your database to create a unique Web page for each product. It then creates an index file
called "prodlist.asp" that lists and links every product.
Hidden or products out of date range are automatically skipped.
All that remains is to
"lead" the search engines to the static catalog just created. To achieve
this you simply link to "prodlist.asp" from any page in your site that is already indexed. While
any page will do, we recommend linking to your product list from your Home page to make
sure that the search engines can find it.
CyberStrong eShop even allows you to change the format of
your "static" pages through the use of a template. The file
found in the custom/cart folder is used for this purpose. Simply edit this file with any
plain text editor such as Windows notepad. To specify a database field for substitution in
this file enclose it in $() delimiters e.g. $(ProductDescription). As shipped, CyberStrong
eShop's Catalog.asp produces a page that is similar in style to the expanded
product image view. Your product's name is prominently placed in the page title for high
search engine visibility. The supplied template also inserts your product's description
and keywords into the page's META tags.
