Hi, I would like to buy a tennis racket as a christmas gift. Where is the best place to buy a racket in Charlottesville? Is it absolutely necessary to try it first?

Downtown Athletic (Seminole Square) is a good place to buy a racquet locally. And most likely they will be able to assist you in picking out a racquet as well.
