CHATL | GATC | ABC | CATS | USTA

CHATL (Charlottesville-Albemarle Tennis League)

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter
This league which began in 1981, offers competitive play on a weekly basis.

Mixed doubles are played spring, summer, and fall, in 8 week sessions. Any mixed doubles pair or individuals may sign up. Indoor play is available during the winter. Time and location will be announced in the fall. The spring session begins in April.

  • Skill Level: 3.5-4.5 (USTA rating not required)
  • Time: Saturday, 9am and/or Wednesday, 5:30pm
  • Location: Pen Park
  • Format: Mixed Doubles
  • Cost: $15/person per 8 week session

GATC (Get Acquainted Tennis Club)

Spring, Summer, Fall
This league, which began in 1978, is for adults looking for playing partners to play tennis on a regular basis. Competition, instruction, and direction by Ron Manilla. Meets every Saturday morning from April-October.

  • Skill Level: Advanced Beginner-Intermediate Adults
  • Time: Saturday, 9am-12 noon
  • Location: Charlottesville High School
  • Format: Drills, lessons, open play
  • Cost: Spring - $20; Summer  - $40; Fall - $25; All Sessions - $75

ABC Tennis Club

Spring, Summer, Fall
This league provides A, B, and C level enthusiasts the opportunity to play tennis on a weekly basis in a fun, supportive, and casual atmosphere.

  • Skill Level: C level or higher (advanced beginner or higher/3.0 or higher). The majority of our members are at the advanced intermediate level (3.5-4.0), with a few players at the advanced level (4.5-5.0). Must have a sense of humor. Must be supportive of players beneath your skill level. Men and women players are equally welcome.
  • Time: Sundays (times vary). Usually, one week night of play is added to our activity schedule during late spring through the early fall. Send e-mail request for current schedule.
  • Location: Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) tennis courts. (Adjusted throughout the year as necessary.)
  • Format: Informal mixture of singles, doubles, and round robin play.
  • Equipment: Must bring your racquet and a can of new or almost new tennis balls.
  • Social Events: Get-togethers are scheduled several times throughout the year.
  • Cost: No fees at the present time.

CATS (Charlottesville Area Tennis Singles)

Spring, Fall
This league is a subgroup of ABC Tennis. It was founded in 2006 to encourage singles matches on the public courts between individuals at similar skill levels. The "Singles" refers to tennis only, i.e. the only love connection you're likely to find is Love - 40. Learn more...

  • Skill Level: Players currently range from about 3.0 - 4.5 ratings.
  • Time/Place: Individuals schedule the times and locations of their own matches.
  • Format: Year-round ladder and informal league play in the Spring and Fall.
  • Cost: There is no cost for CATS Tennis.

Charlottesville USTA League Tennis

Spring, Fall

  • Spring League: For anyone interested in joining a Charlottesville USTA team, contact Nancy Holt at (434) 923-4364 or (434) 978-1021. Any group of 8-16 players may field a team. Matches are played April-July. You must be a USTA member and have a USTA rating.
    Levels: Ladies - 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0; Men - 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0. Singles/Doubles.
  • Senior League: Any player over the age of 50 for Seniors and 60 for Super Seniors looking to play USTA USA League tennis, please contact your club professional or Nancy Holt at (434) 923-4364. Teams can be formed by combining players from clubs or the community.
  • Fall League:  Combo and Mixed Leagues. If you want to start a team or get on a team please contact Nancy Holt at (434) 923-4364.
